Sandy Koufax glove, MLB debut ticket highlight ‘Greats of the Game’ auction at TMN
Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax made his major league debut in 1955 with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Three years, later the dominant left-hander began to hit his stride after the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles.
A ticket to Koufax’s major league debut and a signed, game-used glove from his 1958 season highlight the new “Greats of the Game” auction at The Memorabilia Network.
The auction, which opens May 30 and runs through June 14, features memorabilia from such sports legends as Koufax, Jackie Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and several Hollywood celebrities.
The Memorabilia Network is owned by renowned sports memorabilia agent Harlan Werner, who worked with such sports legends as Ali, Koufax, Jim Brown, Joe Namath, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Clayton Kershaw, Fernando Valenzuela and John Riggins.
Koufax’s 1958 Herb Score-model glove is double signed and authenticated by PSA. It was the first glove he used after the Dodgers moved to L.A. It has an opening bid of $150,000 with a portion of the proceeds going to charity.
The Koufax ticket is from his June 24, 1955 major league debut, when he faced Hank Aaron and tossed two scoreless innings.
Also up for bid is the John Muir High School yearbook triple signed by Koufax teammate Jackie Robinson.
Also highlighting the auction are a pair of 1985 signed, game-used Converse sneakers worn by Magic Johnson; All-Star basketballs signed by Jordan; a basketball signed by the 1996 NBA All-Star team; and more than 30 items from Ali, including artwork, signed items, photographs and personal notes.
The auction also features a collection of scripts signed by the casts of such television shows as “Melrose Place” and “Beverly Hills 90210.”
Among the top baseball cards are a 1995 Koufax, 1959 Aaron and Willie Mays cards and a 1963 Roger Maris.
“It is a great honor for our company to be trusted to handle the sale of some very historic pieces of memorabilia,” Werner said. “The recently discovered Sandy Koufax glove and the incredible run of tickets from his Hall of Fame career blew me away.”
The Memorabilia Network provides fans and collectors with amazing stories about the collectibles available. It also features The Memorabilia Network store at 14006 Riverside Dr. in Sherman Oaks, Calif.
