Joe Montana Collection coming to auction at Goldin

Before Tom Brady, there was Joe Montana — the greatest Super Bowl quarterback in the pre-Brady era.

Known as “Joe Cool” and “The Comeback Kid,” Montana led the San Francisco 49ers to four Super Bowl victories from 1982-90 and was the first NFL quarterback to win three Super Bowl MVPs. His four Super Bowl wins (tied with Terry Bradshaw) is second only to Brady.

A two-time NFL MVP, Montana has an impressive memorabilia collection from his Hall of Fame career. The “Joe Montana Collection” is coming to auction in the February Elite Auction at Goldin Co.

The collection, which will be up for bid from Feb. 9 through March 1, features such incredible items as the red 49ers jerseys Montana wore in Super Bowls XIX and XXIII, which has an opening bid of $250,000.

“I have been fortunate to have some incredible moments in my career, but these weren’t just individual moments. They were moments celebrated with an entire fanbase of people,” Montana said through Goldin. “I have amassed a lot of memorabilia over the course of my career, and I am excited to share these parts of my collection for fans to enjoy and continue to relive the memories.”

A portion of the proceeds from the auction will go to The Four Rings Montana Family Foundation, which supports local children’s charities.
