Babe Ruth, ‘Hans’ Wagner cards, top Goldin Spring Vintage Auction
Several classic vintage cards sold for record-breaking prices in Goldin’s Spring Vintage Auction, with five topping six figures.
It’s premier offering did not sale, however, as the T206 Honus Wagner card known as “the Connecticut Wagner” did not meet the minimum reserve. Bidding stopped at just over $4 million.
The auction featured hundreds of items predating 1980, producing multiple records among rare and historically significant cards.
Record-setting items include:
• John “Hans” Wagner 1902 W600 Sporting Life Cabinet Type 1 Mount Rookie Card (PSA VG+ 3.5) sold for $292,800, a record for the card, one of only four graded examples.

• Yogi Berra 1948 Bowman #6 Rookie card (PSA 9) for a record $79,910.
• Babe Ruth’s “Called Shot” 1932 World Series Game 3 full ticket from the New York Yankees vs. Chicago Cubs (PSA GD 2) for a record $75,030.
• Joe Jackson 1917 Boston Store #82 Card (PSA FR 1.5) for a record $67,107.
Other notable sales included:
• Mickey Mantle 1952 Topps #311 rookie card (PSA 7) $396,500.
• Willie Mays 1951 Bowman #305 rookie card (PSA 8) $173,240.
• Shoeless Joe Jackson 1914 Cracker Jack #103 (SGC GD 2) $136,911.
• Roberto Clemente 1955 Topps #164 signed rookie card (PSA 2, PSA/DNA 7 auto $97,600.
• Ed Matthews 1952 Topps #407 rookie card (PSA NM+ 7.5, Pop 1) $97,600.
Goldin’s June Elite Auction, which includes high-end sports cards, trophies and photos, is now open and runs through June 28.
