Shai Gilgeous-Alexander brings the Thunder as card sales soar
The Oklahoma City Thunder are a perfectly built NBA team, as proven by their 68-14 regular-season record and impressive championship playoff run. It’s a roster with few holes.
But as with most kingpin teams, there’s a clear focal point, and his name is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, better known as SGA.
Gilgeous-Alexander took a circuitous route to the Thunder, having been drafted in 2018 by the Charlotte Hornets, immediately flipped to the Clippers, and then dealt to OKC a year later in a blockbuster deal involving Paul George.
With the Thunder, SGA has developed into a consistent high-scoring threat. In his first three seasons with OKC, he averaged 19, 23.7 and 24.5 points—an impressive start. But in the past three seasons, his scoring average soared to 31.4, 30.1 and 32.7 en route to the 2024-25 NBA MVP. And in the playoffs, SGA has been money, averaging 30.2 last season and 30.4 this year to win NBA Finals MVP.
