Yoo-hoo! Rare 1959 Mickey Mantle card nets big sale as food cards remain popular
Our latest Online Auctioneer Top 10 charts featured food-related vintage cards. One of them, an ultra-rare 1959 Yoo-hoo card of Mickey Mantle, features an up-close head shot of The Magnificent Yankee in his prime.
How rare is this blank-backed card? PSA has graded only five examples and SGC only three.

Shortly after this PSA 6 example sold for over $45,000, another eBay seller offered an SGC 6 example for a far higher price: $195,000 in a Buy It Now offer. It remains unsold.
The other food card here features Mantle with teammate Hank Bauer on a hand-cut panel scissored from Briggs Meat packaging.
While PSA authenticated the panel, it’s not graded. If it were, it would likely be on the low side—very low, considering its obvious grease stains and scuff marks. Despite those flaws, it still surpassed $45,000—proof that collectors have a healthy appetite for all things Mantle.
Speaking of food issues, in March, our Top 10 list featured a Babe Ruth card issued in 1921 by Koestar Bread. That one, graded SGC 2, sold for $31,400 on an amazing 181 bids.
