REA celebrates largest monthly auction with rare Eddie Plank card, vintage gems

REA’s largest monthly auction ever features such rare gems as the 1903 Eddie Plank card, a rare Ty Cobb gem and rookie cards of such sports legends as Jackie Robinson.

REA is celebrating its largest monthly auction ever with some rare and iconic vintage gems, including one of the highest graded examples of the rare 1903 Eddie Plank card.

REA’s September Auction, which runs through Sept. 21, features 4,700 lots, headlined by a 1903 E107 Breisch-Williams Eddie Plank SGC VG/EX 4, the only example graded at this level by SGC with none higher.

Other vintage highlights includes a 1921 Herpolsheimer’s Clothing Ty Cobb PSA EX+ 5.5, the only example graded at this level by PSA with none higher, and a rare 1954 Topps unopened five-cent wax pack "dated" variation PSA EX-MT 6.

The auction also includes an impressive selection of prewar and postwar classics, including a 1915 E145 Cracker Jack #88 Christy Mathewson PSA NM 7; a 1952 Topps #261 Willie Mays SGC 7; and a 1986-1987 Fleer Basketball #57 Michael Jordan Rookie BGS GEM MINT 9.5.

Iconic, high-grade rookie cards include PSA 8 examples of Jackie Robinson’s 1949 Bowman rookie; Whitey Ford’s 1951 Bowman rookie; and Hank Aaron’s 1954 Topps rookie, as well as a 1965 Topps Football #122 Joe Namath Rookie BVG NM-MT+ 8.5; and a 1970-1971 Topps Basketball #123 Pete Maravich Rookie PSA MINT 9

Baseball legends Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays are both strongly represented in the auction with a variety of high-grade options, including PSA 9 examples of their 1967 Topps cards, along with PSA 8 examples of their 1957 Topps. There’s even a PSA 8 example of the 1962 Topps Managers’ Dream card that spotlights both The Mick and The Say Hey Kid.
