The batting gloves Pete Rose wore when he broke Ty Cobb’s all-time hit record and Ozzie Smith’s first Gold Glove topped the Summer Auction at Huggins & Scott.

The batting gloves Pete Rose wore when he collected historic hit No. 4,192 in 1985 topped the Summer Auction at Huggins & Scott Auctions, selling for $78,000.

The batting gloves were signed and dated by Rose, who passed away last year, and photo-matched by Sports Investors Authentication. The gloves have been in the personal collection of a Major League Baseball front-office executive for the last 40 years.

Another historic piece of baseball memorabilia also attracted an impressive sale as the 1980 Rawlings Gold Glove Award presented to Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith, the first of his thirteen career Gold Gloves, sold for $50,400.
