Mickey Mantle, Michael Jordan cards top REA October auction
REA’s October Encore Auction was led by two of the most iconic athletes and cards in the hobby.
A 1984-1985 Star Basketball #101 Michael Jordan Rookie (PSA NM+ 7.5) and a 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle (PSA VG+ 3.5) each sold for $93,000, with the Star Jordan rookie setting a record for the card in that grade.
The classic 1952 Topps set was well-represented among the top results, with a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle (PSA POOR 1) selling for $32,400 and a signed 1952 Topps #261 Willie Mays (PSA POOR 1, GEM MINT 10 signature) selling for $30,000.
One of the top modern cards in the auction featured another Yankee great in Aaron Judge, who just led the Yankees to the World Series. A 2017 Topps Stadium Club Autographs #AJE Aaron Judge Rookie Gold Rainbow #1/1 (PSA NM-MT 8) sold for $9,000.
“This event demonstrated that there continues to be a very strong interest in the vintage market,” REA President Brian Dwyer said. “We also saw spirited bidding and solid results among modern pieces as well, which is exciting as we head into our final two events of the year.”
