It’s all Shohei Ohtani after historic season

Shoehei Ohtani spent the 2024 season obliterating major-league pitching, posting baseball’s first-ever 50/50 season. His 54 runs and 59 steals (in 63 attempts!) are mind-boggling figures, but they were hardly the extent of the damage during his historic season.

Ohtani also batted .310 with 197 hits in 636 at-bats, scored 134 runs to lead the majors and drove in 130 runs to lead the NL. He led baseball in total bases (411) while pacing NL hitters in on-base percentage (.390) and slugging percentage (.646).

Ohtani turned 30 in July 2024 but showed no signs of peaking. While fans anticipate the 2025 season to see what else he has in store, the memorabilia market isn’t waiting around. Card and autograph collectors are all in on Ohtani—and have been since his arrival to the U.S. in 2018.

That’s the year the first U.S. Ohtani cards began hitting the market. The ones that stir up bidding like no other cards these days are his 2018 Bowman Chrome rookies. Just check out our Top 10 list of eBay items and you’ll see an Atomic Refractor variation that sold for more than $46,000. One of only 100 issued, it was graded PSA Gem-Mint 10.

Next, check out our “On the Outside Looking In” list. Within those 10 items are three more Ohtani treasures—one of them a great-looking 2018 Topps Heritage “Real One Autographs” card signed in red ink. Designed after Topps’ 1969 set, this one was graded BGS 9.5 and sold for more than $30,000.

The other two Ohtani cards to chart are Blue Refractor variations of his 2018 Topps Chrome card. One captured Ohtani in a batting action shot and sold for $28,400. The other, showing Ohtani on the mound, came within $1,200 of that price. Both were PSA 10 specimens.

• $25,200 on 59 bids for a signed 2018 Topps Chrome Sapphire Orange Refractor marked #11/25 and graded PSA 10.

• $23,000 on 43 bids for another autographed 2018 Bowman Chrome Blue Refractor. This one—showing Ohtani in a game-action batting pose—was marked #53/150 and graded BGS 9.5.

• $15,100 on 74 bids for a 2018 Topps Chrome Xfractor marked #52/99 and graded BGS 10 with a pristine Black Label. This one offers a game-action batting pose of the lefty slugger.
