In 2004, Upper Deck honored Magic Johnson and his five NBA championships with a special Exquisite Collection card.

The Exquisite Collection Titleist card was limited to just five copies to match Johnson’s five championships.

A copy of the card has gone to auction only once — way back in 2005.

Another copy has surfaced at PWCC Marketplace, where it is up for bid in PWCC’s February Premier Auction through Feb. 16. The high bid currently sits at $12,000.

“This card is a ghost in the world of trading cards," said Jesse Craig, vice president of sales at PWCC Marketplace. “This is easily among the top Magic Johnson assets in the world because it has only appeared for public sale once before. People know it exists, but you simply can't buy it. When you talk about ‘chase’ cards this is a prime example. You can go find many of Magic's rookie offerings up for sale right now. This one? You can spend a lifetime chasing it."

The 2004 release featured prominent NBA players with limited print runs matching the number of championships each player had at the time. The insert set was only produced in 2004, making Johnson one of only 30 players to be featured.

The Magic Johnson card, which is graded BGS 9, features a patch from one of his game-worn Lakers jerseys and his autograph in blue ink.

Johnson, a three-time league MVP, won five NBA championships and three NBA Finals MVP awards, including as a rookie in 1980.
