Rare signed Kobe Bryant card coming to market at SCP Auctions
SCP Auctions is offering one of the most valuable and highly sought-after Kobe Bryant cards in the hobby in its 2022 Spring Premier Auction.
The 1997-98 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems Kobe Bryant is a limited edition card numbered 60/100. The SCP example is even more rare, however, because it is the only known PMG card autographed by Kobe. Though the card is graded Authentic by PSA, it carries an autograph grade of 9. The autograph has also been authenticated by JSA.
Of the 100 Kobe PMG cards printed, 10 are green while 90 are ruby red. A green version, graded BGS 8.5, sold in February for $2 million in a private sale brokered by PWCC Marketplace. The cards were produced with colored foil, making them difficult to find in high grades.
The autographed SCP red example has an estimated value of $500,000.
Bryant averaged 7.6 points per game as a rookie in 1996-7, and then averaged 15.4 points in his second NBA season in 1997-98. He helped lead the Lakers to the Western Conference Finals that season as a 19-year-old.
SCP’s Spring auction opens May 18 and runs through June 4. For more information, visit www.scpauctions.com.
