Topps releases first new Topps Chrome Basketball set under Fanatics
When Fanatics purchased Topps late last year, it hinted at a return of Topps Basketball under such popular brands as Topps Chrome.
Topps took a giant step in that direction Wednesday with the release of its 2021/22 Topps Chrome Overtime Elite Basketball series, its first Chrome release with the new OTE league.
The set is the first Topps Chrome Basketball set since 2008-09, when Panini acquired the exclusive rights to produce NBA cards.
Overtime Elite is a new developmental basketball league that recruits and develops top high school and post-graduate players to help prepare them for the NBA draft and as an alternative to college basketball.
The new Topps Chrome checklist features 100 base cards of all Overtime Elite League players.
It also includes inserts such as Topps 1969, Superfly, Levitate and Future Problems featuring such rising stars as Bryson Warren, the No. 14 prospect in ESPN’s class of 2023.
The set also includes several Refractors with multiple Hobby-exclusive editions like the Orange Basketball Refractor.
Hobby boxes, which feature two Chrome autographs per box, sell for $179.99.
