Baseball signed by Ruth, Cobb and 1939 inaugural Hall of Fame class highlights SCP auction
The inaugural class of the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939 featured some of the all-time greatest players in baseball history, including Babe Ruth, Cy Young, Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb and Walter Johnson.
A baseball featuring autographs from all five legends and all 11 inductees in the inaugural class is up for bid in the Summer Premier Auction at SCP Auctions. The ball is from the collection of former MLB pitcher and umpire Eddie Rommel and is valued at more than $300,000.
The auction, which runs through Aug. 3, also features the warm-up jacket from Kobe Bryant’s final NBA game. Bryant wore the gold Lakers jacket on April 13, 2016, when he scored 60 points in the final game of his career.
The auction also features some significant and iconic cards, including: a 1984-85 Star Michael Jordan rookie card (PSA 7); 1984-85 Star complete set with five PSA-graded cards, including a PSA 7 Jordan rookie; a 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson (PSA 4); and a 1951 Bowman Willie Mays rookie (PSA 4).

Game-worn and game-used memorabilia includes: a 2021 Joe Burrow game worn, signed and inscribed jersey from his franchise-record 525 passing yards; a rare 1962 Pele-signed and inscribed match-worn jersey; a bat used by Mel Ott in 1946-47; a bat used by Ted Williams from 1951-55; and a 2010 Rafael Nadal shirt photo-matched to his U.S. Open Final victory to complete the career grand slam.
Among championship jewelry are Rick Barry’s NBA 50 Greatest Players ring; two 2015 Kansas City Royals rings; a 1986 New York Giants Super Bowl XXI ring; and a 1996 New York Yankees World Series Champions pendant.
