Another Michael Jordan card sets record at PWCC
Another Michael Jordan card set a record last week, attracting six figures in the November Premier Auction at PWCC Marketplace.
The 1998 Skybox Premium Star Rubies Michael Jordan card sold for $216,000, a record for the coveted /50 parallel card and the second highest-selling Star Rubies parallel of all time.
Skybox’s Star Rubies sets helped establish serial-numbered cards in the hobby. Along with other cards like Skybox’s Precious Metal Gems, they helped add much-needed scarcity to cards in the hobby.
The 1998 Star Rubies release is the last Skybox set to feature Jordan before his retirement after the 1998 season. Cards from the set are notoriously condition-sensitive due to their highly detailed foil surface and full bleed edges. The Jordan card was graded PSA 7 and is a Pop 4, with only five examples graded higher.
Other records from the auction include:
• A 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 (PSA 1 (MC) PR for $35,400, the seventh highest price for a PSA 1 grade, particularly one with a miscut qualifier due to pin holes in the front and a miscut on the back.
• 1999 Upper Deck Game Jerseys Kobe Bryant PATCH AUTO 1/8 #GJ21A (BGS 9 MINT) for $32,700, a for-card record.
• 2020 Topps Dynasty F1 Lewis Hamilton/Valtteri Bottas PATCH AUTO 1/1 MBA AUTH for a record $20,400.
• 1998 Fleer Brilliants 24kt Gold Anfernee Hardaway /24 #8TG (PSA 9 MINT) for a record $14,400.
