Larry Bird jersey, Michael Jordan sneakers top $6.2M Scottie Pippen Collection at Sotheby’s

The Scottie Pippen Collection features historic memorabilia from his Hall of Fame career, including items from such NBA legends as Pippen, Larry Bird and Michael Jordan.

The Scottie Pippen Collection of historic memorabilia from Pippen’s Hall of Fame NBA career generated $6.2 million in a competitive auction at Sotheby’s.

The white-glove auction, which opened March 2,  attracted more than 470 bidders from 32 countries around the world. According to Sotheby’s, 2,567 bids were placed, with 75 percent of the lots selling for prices exceeding pre-auction estimates. Nearly 1,500 collectors visited the dedicated exhibition at Sotheby’s global headquarters in New York.

The sale was led by a rare game-worn, signed Larry Bird “Dream Team” jersey worn during the 1992 Olympics. The white Team USA jersey attracted 74 bids and sold for $896,000, a record for any Bird memorabilia.

Another extraordinary sale also featured a pair of Air Jordan VII sneakers worn by Jordan during the 1992 Olympic games in Barcelona, which sold for $640,000. The game-worn sneakers were given to Pippen by Jordan following Team USA’s gold-medal victory.

Pippen’s collection of six NBA Championship trophies sold for $640,000.

Other auction highlights included:

• Pippen’s 1998 NBA Finals “Last Dance” jersey sold for $448,000.

• Pippen’s game-worn jersey from the 1992 Olympic gold medal game sold for $384,000.

• Pippen’s white 1996 NBA Finals jersey sold for $281,600.

• Pippen’s red 1996 NBA Finals jersey sold for $256,000.

• Pippen’s 1994 NBA All-Star Game MVP jersey sold for $83,200.
