Michael Jordan routinely gets plenty of ink on this site and in the pages of Sports Collectors Digest. He’ll get more here.

We simply cannot downplay the legendary hoop star after another month of frenzied collecting.

To wit: Jordan shows up at No. 1 in our monthly Top 10 chart of the top online card sales on eBay. He shows up again at No. 7, and then hogs half the entries in our “next 10” list. That’s a total of seven items that brought between $40,000 and $100,000 in a single month.

There are even more Jordan auction highlights beyond our chart entries:

• $37,659 on 94 bids for a 2005-06 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection Achievements Signatures card marked #9/63 and graded BGS 9.5 with a 10 autograph.

• $27,600 on 71 bids for a PSA 9 1986 Fleer rookie.

• $22,100 on 93 bids for a PSA 10 1996-97 Fleer Ultra Scoring Kings card.

• $13,798 on 45 bids for a 1997-98 Fleer Zone (PSA 10).

• $11,200 on 33 bids for a 2006-07 Fleer Autographics card graded BGS 9.5 with a 9 autograph.

These examples come only from eBay auctions, never mind Buy It Now transactions. In fact, several such deals saw Fleer Jordan 9-grade rookies draw prices between $30,000 and $50,000.

Don’t expect any slumping in Jordan prices in the years ahead. His career stats were gaudy enough—30.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 2.3 steals per game. But the indelible images of Jordan transcend his numbers: the athleticism, the hang time, the thunderous dunks, competitive fire, the clutch performances with games on the line. He did whatever he wanted on the hardwood, which is how he won six NBA titles, snagged the scoring title 10 times, earned All-Defensive honors nine times, and garnered five MVP awards in the regular season and six more in the NBA Finals.

Jordan's impact seems to echo through the years, inspiring collectors to spend ever-growing amounts on his top-of-the-line items.
