Caitlin Clark, Nick Kurtz headline top Rookie cards of 2025
New draft classes and emerging stars across all sports once again gave collectors something new to chase in 2025.
In fact, rookie cards were once again hot sellers—from baseball and basketball to hockey and soccer—throughout 2025.
Baseball saw several new stars emerge, most notably pitcher Roki Sasaki and first baseman Nick Kurtz. The Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher, coming off a wild World Series win against the Toronto Blue Jays, followed in the footsteps of teammate Shohei Ohtani in terms of card hype and popularity. Kurtz, selected by the Athletics in the first round of the 2024 MLB draft, was named AL Rookie of the Year. As a result, his card values soared.
The NFL, with its new class of rookie quarterbacks, saw the emergence of Tennessee Titans signal-caller Cam Ward. On the hardwood, versatile forward Cooper Flagg, drafted first overall by the Dallas Mavericks, made a name for himself at Duke. That hype spilled over into the card market once he made his NBA debut.
On the women’s side, UConn star point guard Paige Bueckers was named WNBA Rookie of the Year, but Caitlin Clark, who dominated rookie cards in 2024, continued to dominate the market as her first-year cardboard continued to be released in 2025 products.
With the 2026 World Cup scheduled for this summer, the popularity of soccer cards also expanded across North America. Barcelona striker Lamine Yamal, who also plays for Spain, was joined by Brazilian teenager Endrick among the must-have rookie cards of 2025.
