Winter Classic Auction includes more than 1,500 lots of sports memorabilia
When it comes to grabbing the notice of sports memorabilia collectors, there is no denying that Babe Ruth is the player who receives a majority of the attention. For collectors looking for Ruth items to purchase, there are plenty to choose from in Steiner Auctions’ Winter Classic Auction.
Bidding is currently open for the auction that contains more than 1,500 lots. Bidding is scheduled to end March 24.
One of the top Ruth items available is a 4”x5” sepia toned Tour of Japan photograph featuring Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Jimmie Foxx. The photograph contains signatures from all three players. According to the auction lot description, autographs from these three players on one item are “seldom seen together and photographs of just the three of them are nearly unheard of.”
Staying in Japan, a unique Ruth item that is available is a vintage American-Japanese Baseball Poster Photograph. The item had a starting bid of $100, making it as one of the least expensive starting bids for a Ruth item in the auction.
Other Ruth items for sale in the auction include a handful of signed baseballs, including single and multi-signed baseballs; Ruth signed cancelled check in frame with photo of Ruth as a New York Yankee; Ruth signed 3”x5” photograph, Ruth signed 1943 NBC Broadcasting contract; Ruth baseball bats, newspapers featuring Ruth; vintage 1924 Ruth, Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, etc. group photograph from original negative; and January 1934 Baseball Magazine featuring Ruth on the cover.
