Records fall in Mile High Card Company's September Auction

Individual cards from the 1933 Delong set and items from "The Beer Box II" find led the way in the September Auction hosted by Mile High Card Company.

Led by a high-end 1933 DeLong complete set and the sequel to “The Beer Box Find,” Mile High Card Company’s September Auction delivered with $2.4 million in total sales.

The individual cards from the 1933 Delong set received feverish bidding all throughout the final day of the auction, and closed at a total of $214,791. The following cards led the way: #7 Lou Gehrig NM/MT ($64,670), #6 Mickey Cochrane PSA 8 NM/MT ($13,721), #15 Riggs Stephenson PSA 8 NM/MT ($24,691) #19 Chick Hafey PSA 8 NM/MT ($24,331), and #24 Goose Goslin PSA 8 NM/MT ($14,932) setting all-time price records.

“Beer Box II” turned out to be every bit as impressive as advertised, highlighted by a non-sports section that included a 1965 Topps Gilligan's Island partial unopened wax box (15/24) that brought in just over $14,000, a 1969 Topps Wacky Ads nearly full unopened wax box (21/24) with scarce "Good and Empty" showing at $17,877, a 1965 Scanlen’s Football Six-Pack display box salesman’s sample at $11,879, and the one and only PSA graded 1967 Leaf Star Trek unopened pack that went for $9,018.

Other key pieces that returned top results were 1948-49 Leaf #8 Satchel Paige EX/NM that sold for $93,219, 1921 E121 American Caramel Babe Ruth Series of 80 PSA 3.5 VG+ that closed at $20,725, 1966 Philadelphia #31 Dick Butkus PSA 9 MINT that sold for $37,807, 1986-87 Fleer Basketball unopened wax box that went for $57,182, and an extremely scarce 1968 Topps Test Basketball unopened pack that brought in $16,901.
