Collect.com Auctions Bidding Now Live
Between a boatload of pristine PSA and SGC single cards, sets and near-sets, and a similarly impressive stockpile of autographed balls of some of the biggest names in professional sports, Collect.com Auction officials are enthused about the company’s upcoming Sports and Americana Auction.
The fourth catalog auction for Collect.com will close on April 8, with the 64-page color catalog inserted with this issue of Sports Collectors Digest.
“We’re extremely pleased with the lineup for this upcoming sale,” said Collect.com Auctions Director Steve Bloedow. “We’re anticipating big things from a number of seldom-seen treasures, perhaps most notably a striking multi-signed baseball from the 1920s with nearly three dozen signatures, including 19 Hall of Famers,” he pointed out.
That ball includes Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Jimmy Foxx, George Sisler, Mickey Cochrane, Lefty Grove and a host of others, a glittering roster that revs it up to a minimum opening of $3,000.
The memorabilia log also features Scott Norwood’s only game-used helmet, from his seven-year career for the Buffalo Bills, and comes with a lengthy inscription for the former Bills kicker detailing the helmet’s pedigree, right down to a cheerful and ultimate good-sport allusion to “Wide Right.” That makes it a unique opportunity to own a singular piece with NFL history – quite literally – written all over it.
Speaking of rare opportunities, how many times do you get the chance to bid on a complete set of 1969 Topps Supers where the whole group can quite fairly lay claim to a Mint designation, with nearly a dozen of the biggies duly slabbed and PSA-blessed to back it up.
The 1969 Super set opens at a mere $900, the same pledge that will get you into the action on a couple of other all-graded stunners. A near-set of the difficult 1921 E253 Oxford Confectionery set includes Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson and Tris Speaker; behind Door No. 2 is a massive all-PSA-graded aggregation of 1933 Goudeys, making for as enticing a starter set or upgrade vehicle as you could ever hope for.
The vast assortment of PSA- or SGC-graded cards touches on 1921-23 National Caramels, American Caramels and even 1916-20 W-UNC Strip cards, and all three issues and others are also featured in several promising unslabbed lots as well.
There are T206s, several 1920 Ruth, Cobb and Walter Johnson Strip cards, a 1921 E121 American Caramel Rogers Hornsby and even a PSA 8 Sanella Margarine Ruth card from 1932.
And while the prewar stuff demands big headlines, there’s much for enthusiasts of the game’s Golden Era of the 1950s as well. Atop that list would be a wonderful Ex-Mt to Nr-Mt 1955 Bowman Baseball set, or a 1959 Topps Baseball near-set that proclaims itself a uniform Nr-Mt condition all around.
Another late 1950s eye opener: a grouping of 11 cards from the classic 1959 Fleer Life of Ted Williams issue, with all 11 entombed in far more appropriate fashion than the slugger himself. Each card grades a sparkling PSA 9 Mint; and there’s a second lot of cards from the same issue that grades out entirely in Nr-Mt slabs as well.
