Tony Gwynn Gold Glove bags record sale in special memorabilia auction
Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn was widely known as one of the greatest hitters of all time, winning eight NL batting titles and retiring with a career .338 average.
But Gwynn was perhaps most proud of his defense, where he worked countless hours to become an all-star right fielder. While he made 15 NL All-Star teams based primarily on his hitting, he also won five Gold Gloves.
Those awards were not only coveted by Gwynn, but also his fans and collectors. His 1990 Gold Glove Award recently sold for a record $102,100 in the Tony Gwynn Memorabilia Auction at The Realest, a new sports and entertainment memorabilia authentication company that partnered with the Gwynn Family to auction artifacts from his 20-year career.
The six-figure sale made Gwynn’s award the highest-grossing Gold Glove sold at public auction since Roberto Clemente’s Gold Glove sold for $88,125 in 1972. Gwynn’s 1991 Gold Glove previously sold for $62,000 in a June 2025 auction at The Realest.

The “Eternal All-Star Tony Gwynn Memorabilia Auction” Sept. 27-28 was the third Gwynn auction from The Realest, following the “First Inning” and “Silver Bats” auctions earlier this year.
