Shohei Ohtani cards, memorabilia surge after hot start to 2025

While Aaron Judge has garnered most of the early headlines, NL MVP Shohei Ohtani is off to another hot start, sending his cards and memorabilia surging on eBay.

We’ve given ample ink to Aaron Judge of the Yankees in this space in recent issues. Time to check in on his counterpart in the National League—Shohei Ohtani.

Suffice to say that with another hot start, Ohtani has collectors in all-out buying mode. And there’s no shortage of product. Currently on eBay, you’ll find more than a quarter-million listings when you search Ohtani. It’s not surprising, considering that Ohtani—after his unprecedented 50/50 2024 season—burst into this season with hot stats. Through the middle of May, he had a .300-plus batting average and an MLB-leading 16 homers with 10 stolen bases

With all the headlines, it’s no wonder there are so many Ohtani-related items pushing past the $10,000 mark. Sounds crazy, perhaps, but it’s true. One such prize was an autographed baseball that sold for $23,100 on 21 bids. Marked #17/17, it was authenticated by Fanatics FanSecure. (We’ve seen a number of baseballs signed by Babe Ruth sell for comparable prices–or less.)
