WWE card of The Rock sets record in April auction at PWCC Marketplace
Before he became one of the highest-grossing and highest-paid Hollywood actors of all time, Dwayne Johnson was one of the biggest stars in professional wrestling, headlining main events for WWE.
Now The Rock is making waves in the sports collectibles hobby as well.
Johnson’s 2022 Panini Prizm WWE Black Prizms The Rock #191 card, numbered 1/1 and graded PSA 7 NRMT, sold for $126,000 in the April Premier Auction at last week. The sale marked the highest-selling WWE trading card of all time.
The 1/1 card came from Panini’s first WWE Prizm set ever released, with the Black Prizm parallel being the crown jewel of the inaugural collection. The card features a holofoil image of The Rock slamming rival Stone Cold Steve Austin to the mat.
The record-setting card topped PWCC’s $8.42 million auction, which featured nearly 300 assets across all sports.
Another big sports celebrity also made headlines during the auction, with Dennis Rodman’s 1998 Fleer Ultra Masterpieces 1/1 #80 card selling for $81,000, a record for a Rodman solo card.
Graded BGS 8.5 NM-MT+, the Rodman card was the rarest parallel in the 1998 Fleer set with a print run of just one. According to PWCC, it is one of the earliest examples of a 1/1 card in basketball collecting history and remains one of Rodman’s scarcest issues.
The 1/1 parallel features Rodman in his white Chicago Bulls uniform diving for a ball during the 1997 season.
