Vlad Guerrero Jr. rookie card sets record with $552K sale
Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is off to a torrid start, hitting five home runs in his first 10 games, including three in one game.
His rookie card is also hot, setting a record in the PWCC Premier Auction on April 16.
Guerrero’s 2016 Bowman Chrome Red Refractor rookie card sold for a record $552,000. The autographed card, graded 10 Pristine by Beckett, is one of only five in existence.
The card sold for nearly three times the previous record — $186,960 — for a Guerrero Jr. card.
“There is a ton for collectors to love about Vlad Jr. and his game,” said Jesse Craig, director of business development at PWCC Marketplace. “He’s just 23 years old and he already has three solid seasons to his name.”
Guerrero Jr. had a breakout season in 2011, batting .311 with a .401 OBP and 1.002 OPS. He finished second in AL MVP voting behind Shohei Ohtani.
“The start to this season helps solidify the fact that 2021 was no fluke,” Craig said. “The consensus among card collectors is that Vlad Jr. is the real deal.”
