‘Uncommon Commonwealth’ auction highlights Boston biggest sports legends
If you are sports collector and a fan of Boston and Massachusetts area sports teams, you may want to check out a new auction at JG Limited, a division of JG Autographs.
The “Uncommon Commonwealth” auction, which opens Nov. 4 and runs through Nov. 22, features 250 lots of historic memorabilia spanning four centuries of history and culture from the Bay State. Included is 40 lots of sports cards and memorabilia featuring some of Boston’s top teams and legendary athletes.
The top sports cards up for bid include ungraded 1941 Play Ball cards of former Red Sox stars Ted Williams and Jimmie Foxx.
There is also a lot of five Play Ball and Goudey cards from the 1930s and ‘40s featuring such stars as Joe Cronin and Jack Wilson and a collection of autographed Red Sox cards from the 1980s.
Also featured are two 1968-69 O-Pee-Chee cards of hockey Hall of Famer Bobby Orr.
The sports section of the auction also features dozens of autographed photos of such Boston sports legends as Bill Russell, Robert Parish, Bill Sharman, Bob Cousy, Tom Heinsohn, Wade Boggs, Roger Clemens, Ray Bourque, Phil Esposito and Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
Also available are Boston Braves and Boston Red Sox programs and scorecards from the 1920s-40s.
