Topps Baseball Series 2 hits stores with cool, new inserts
Topps Baseball Series 2 hit retail and hobby shops Tuesday, continuing the popular design of Topps’ flagship set released in February.
The 350-card set features the same electric Series 1 design that was popular with collectors: a neon border in team colors, with a black smoke border, and team names in the upper right corner.
The cards feature MLB stars, rookies, Future Stars, League Leaders and Team Cards on base cards, inserts, autos and relic cards. Hobby boxes ($84.99) contain 20 packs, with one auto or relic per box.
Series 2 features some new, unique inserts, including Signature Tunes, dual-auto cards featuring players and the artists who perform their walk-up songs. Featured cards include: Yankee Daddy/Juan Soto; and Travis Scott/Kyle Tucker. Some are numbered to #/25.
Another new insert is Women in Baseball, featuring ESPN announcer Jessica Mendoza, coaches Ronnie Gajownik, and Alyssa Nakken, and player/ambassador Veronica Alvarez.
Also back is First Pitch featuring sports stars, celebrities and historical figures throwing out a first pitch. Featured are NBA Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama, President George W. Bush, soccer star Mallory Swanson and rappers Myke Towers and Yankee Daddy, some with auto cards numbered #1/1, #/25 and #/50.
Also back are Golden Mirror short prints with gold foil backs of all 350 base cards. Inserts include: City to City (autos #1/1, #/25, #50), Around the Horn, Covering the Field, Fantasy Favorites, 1989 Topps Baseball, 1989 Topps All-Star Baseball (with that year’s design), and Significant Statistics .
Other interesting inserts include Heavy Lumber, which features 20 of the league’s best hitters on wood-grained cards; Social Media Follow Back Redemption cards; Homefield Advantage/Legendary Advantage (top current players and legends with iconic imagery from their home field); Platinum Performers; and Sketch Cards (1/1 hand-drawn art featuring stars and legends).
Hobby exclusive commemorative relics include: 2023 Silver Slugger Award Winner; Major League Material; City Connect Swatch Collection (game-used relics from city connect jerseys); 1989 Topps Baseball Relics; 1989 Topps All-Star Baseball Relics (game-used memorabilia in 35th anniversary-themed cards); and In the Name Relics (1/1 relics featuring jersey nameplate letters).
Auto cards include: Baseball Stars Autographs/Dual Autos/Triple Auto; 1989 Topps Baseball Autograph cards; 1989 Topps All-Star Baseball Autograph Cards; and Cut Signatures (1/1 cut signatures of legendary names).
