Top 40 eBay sports card sales of 2022

Despite a dip in the sports card market, there were still plenty of big sales in 2022. Online Auctioneer Larry Canale takes a look at the top 40 online sales of the year.

With another year in the rear-view mirror, let’s take a look at highlights from the hobby’s favorite online “crowd-sourced” auction site, eBay.

Here’s a look at our top 40 prices in 2022. You’ll find seven sports represented, including tennis, soccer and auto racing.

Note the attention paid to gridiron stars. Tom Brady, of course, is the king, and he’s joined by one of his boyhood heroes, Joe Montana, along with a trio of young guns: Patrick Mahomes II, Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert. The only non-QB: Walter Payton, whose rookie card has been making big gains in recent years.

That said, the biggest item from the past year is — surprise! — Michael Jordan.

Remember that similar items often sell for higher prices at dedicated auction houses like Heritage Auctions, Leland’s, SCP Auctions, and former eBay seller PWCC Marketplace, among others. By buying seller-to-seller, you can usually (but not always) find more collector-friendly prices.
