Roger Maris 1961 jersey, Ty Cobb rookie bat highlight Grey Flannel Holiday auction
Three weeks after Aaron Judge broke his American League home run record, a game-worn jersey from Roger Maris’ historic 1961 season has hit the auction market.
Maris broke Babe Ruth’s single-season record with 61 home runs in 1961. He won back-to-back American League MVPs in 1960 and 1961 and led the Yankees to five consecutive World Series.
The all-original road flannel jersey is up for bid in Grey Flannel’s Holiday Catalog Auction.
The Maris jersey has been photo-matched to a photo of Maris, Mickey Mantle and Clete Boyer in the Yankees clubhouse at Game 6 of the 1960 World Series. It also has also been photo-matched to multiple images from the 1961 season, including the game in which Maris hit his 59th home run.
Bidding for the jersey begins at $25,000.
The auction, which ends Nov. 13, also features amazing game-worn and game-used items from such baseball legends as Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio.
Also highlighted is Cobb’s earliest known game-used bat dating back to his rookie season in 1905. Cobb played 41 games in 1905 and possibly hit his first career home run with the bat, which has been graded PSA/DNA GU 10. Bidding begins at $100,000.
Also up for bid are:
• A Reach OAL Harridge baseball signed on the sweet spot by Babe Ruth. It has been graded PSA/DNA 9 and has an opening bid of $25,000.
• A game-used Joe DiMaggio cap gifted by DiMaggio to a family friend and offered at auction for the first time. It has an opening bid of $10,000.
