Rickey Henderson rookie card nets big sale, highlights REA auction

Rickey Henderson’s death on Dec. 20 has caused his rookie card to soar in demand and value.

A 1980 Topps Henderson rookie graded PSA 10 topped the January Auction at REA, selling for $150,000, the fourth highest sale all-time for the card of baseball’s all-time steals leader.

The auction, the first event under REA’s new brand and bidding platform, included more than 3,000 cards and generated nearly $1.5 million in sales across more than 69,000 bids.

Other highlights included; a 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle (SGC VG 40) that sold for $51,600; a 1915 E145 Cracker Jack #103 Joe Jackson (SGC Authentic) for $34,800; and a 2000 Playoff Contenders #144 Tom Brady Rookie Ticket Autograph (BGS 9, 10 auto) for $31,200.
