Sports Card Forum announces winner of year long contest

During the Hawaii Trade conference in 2009, Upper Deck turned many heads by giving away some truly amazing cards to the attendees. Sportscardforum’s owner and general manager were in attendance and they received the mother of all hockey cards. A quadruple autographed card numbered to 3 featuring Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Bobby Orr and Mario Lemieux. What does one do with such a card I hear you ask? Well, if you’re the owner of a popular sports card forum you think that this is a wonderful way to give something back to the members and you decide to give it away on the boards. When they hockey Team got wind of what their top prize for the season would be, they decided that a simple one off contest just wasn’t enough. After all, to be worthy of such a prize, the eventual winner should have to display some skills and knowledge about hockey.

After much consideration, it was decided that various contests would be held throughout the 2009-2010 season and that for each contest, points would be awarded toward what was to be named “The Race for the Quad”. This gigantic contest has been similar to a Formula one’s driver championship, all year round all contestants did their best in the various contests and hoped to be at the top of the leaderboard at the end of the year to claim the prize.

To make matters even more interesting, the team decided to include some of our most popular yearly contests in the Race for the Quad. The regular season pool and the playoffs one were an important part of the competition as well as new contests such as a bingo, a pick to win league and an Olympic based competition. All those contests sure kept us all entertained throughout the year and having such a beauty up for grabs was just the icing on the cake.

As the Stanley Cup final progresses towards its inevitable end, so too does the Race for the Quad. While the Hawks and the Flyers are tied up 2-2, we have quite a tight finish on our hands as well. Currently, two members are competing for the top spot with only one point between them! The lucky members are DamonX and Waf. With only a few days left to the playoffs pool contest, it is now time to launch the very last part of our Race for the Quad competition; the Scavengers Hunt. Take a look at the hockey contest forum to discover what it’s all about but all I’ll say is that there are still 6 Race for the Quad points up for grabs there…Best of luck to the leaders and I look forward to seeing who takes the top prize!

As for the rest of us, you know, the unlucky ones who cannot win the Quad well, we shouldn’t be too sad…Upper Deck may not have donated such a stunning card this year but one of our staffers did! So for the 2010-2011 season be ready to compete in the “Race for the Trio”! Up for grabs will be a 2007-2008 The Cup Enshrinements Triple Autograph Bobby Orr, Johnny Bucyk and Phil Esposito as well as a box of cards.
