Vintage cards, complete sets highlight successful December auction at Mile High

Mile High Card Company’s December auction was highlighted by a 1909-11 T206 complete set and a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth card.

Mile High Card Co. finished of 2022 with a strong December auction, headlined by a T206 complete set and a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth card that both reached six figures.

The SCG-graded 1909-11 T206 complete set with a 5.20 GPA sold for $366,417, while and the 1933 Goudey #144 Babe Ruth (PSA 8) brought $483,638.

“It was a great event to close out the year, but we’ve got even bigger plans for 2023,” MHCC CEO and President Brian Drent said.

Other six-figure sales included: a 1948 Leaf #8 Leroy "Satchel" Paige (SGC 7) that sold for a record $103,969; a 1952 Topps #261 Willie Mays (PSA 8) for a record $215,436; and a 1957 Topps #77 Bill Russell (PSA 8) for $146,574.

Two high-profile collections were broken up and sold as individual lots: a 1953 Bowman Color Complete Set (#7 On PSA Set Registry, 7.981 GPA) for an aggregate total of $121,248; and a 1954 Topps Complete Set (PSA graded, 9.098 GPA, #3 on PSA Set Registry) with sales adding up to $480,081.

The 1953 Bowman Color set was led by a #59 Mickey Mantle (PSA 8) that brought $14,907, while the 1954 Topps set featured a #10 Jackie Robinson (PSA 9) that brought record price $76,438.

Other elite complete sets included a 1933 Goudey set (PSA Graded) for $74,023 and a 1954 Topps Baseball for $27,136.

Unopened material continues to be a Mile High Card Co. hallmark, with a 2012-13 Panini Prizm Basketball factory-sealed case with 12 unopened boxes selling $83,764 and a rare 1967 Topps Wacky Packages wax box taking down $64,661.
