1996 Michael Jordan NBA All-Star Game card highlights PWCC auction
In October 1993, Michael Jordan shocked the sports world when he abruptly retired after winning three NBA championships.
Four months later, in February 1994, he sent shocks waves through the sports world again when he announced he planned to play minor league baseball and pursue an MLB career.
After a year of only moderate baseball success, Jordan announced his return to the NBA in March 1995 with a two-word press release that proclaimed, “I’m back.”
Though Jordan’s Chicago Bulls came up short in their 1995 playoff run, Jordan was back in superstar form during the 1995-96 season. He averaged 30.4 points per game to win the league MVP and lead the Bulls to a historic season that included a record 72-10 regular-season mark and their fourth NBA championship.
Along the way, Jordan was also the MVP of the 1996 NBA All-Star Game, scoring 20 points to lead the East team to a win.
Jordan’s All-Star Game performance is memorialized in a special 2009 Upper Deck Exquisite Number Pieces Michael Jordan Patch Auto card. The autographed card, numbered #10/23, features two swatches from Jordan’s 1996 All-Star Game jersey shaped in a “23.”
The card, one of only three examples authenticated by PSA, highlights the June Premier Auction at PWCC Marketplace.
The auction, which opened June 8 and runs through June 22, features elite assets across all sports.
