Lou Gehrig rookie card, handwritten notebook top Lelands Spring Auction
New York Yankees legend Lou Gehrig was the star of the show in Lelands Spring Classic Auction, with a Gehrig rookie card and one of his handwritten high school notebooks both topping six figures.
A hobby-fresh copy of Gehrig’s 1925 Exhibits rookie card sold for $387,257. The card, graded PSA 4.5, is one of just 43 graded by PSA, with just nine graded higher.
Gehrig’s high school notebook, which sold for $193,644, features 30 pages of handwritten notes and 22 “Gehrig” signatures. The signatures are believed to be the earliest-known Gehrig signatures in the hobby, dating approximately three years prior to his 1923 MLB debut with the Yankees.
