All Packers fans — and collectors — need is (Jordan) Love
Packer fans expect big things from their quarterback. For the past 30 years, they haven’t been disappointed, thanks to iron men Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. This season, Green Bay faithful looked to Jordan Love to carry on the tradition.
Love began the 2023 season with a bang. Excitement over his fast start spilled into the collectibles market, and Love’s rookie cards began drawing heavy coverage from bidders. Then he stumbled for a spell before seeming to get back into a groove.
Love had one of his best games on Thanksgiving Day, completing 22 of 32 passes for 268 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions to lead the 5-6 Packers over the rival Lions.
NEW RELEASES: New card sets just in time for the holidays
The main target for collectors seeking Love is his 2020 Panini National Treasures autographed patch card. One example graded PSA 9 recently brought $7,878 on 30 bids on eBay. It was marked #30/99. A Gold variation of the same card — one of only 10 made — fetched $7,099 on 40 bids. It was graded BGS 8.5.
A rare variation called “Midnight,” with its black undertones, sold recently for a healthy $9,288 on 32 bids. It was marked #16/20 and graded BGS 9.5.
Other prices paid for 2020 National Treasures auto-patch Love rookies:
• $7.084 on 37 bids for a BGS 9 specimen
• $7,000 on 48 bids for an ungraded example
• $5,900 on 37 bids for a PSA 9 example.
Another Love rarity, a #1/1 2020 Panini National Treasures "Colossal Materials" card, brought $5,200. Graded PSA 9, it features an uniform patch bearing the NFL shield.
Even if Love hits more speed bumps — he’s worked with banged-up running backs and receivers all season — the hobby is showing strong speculation that he’s the real deal.
