Collectors staking claims to red-hot Joe Burrow cards
Over the past few years, the leaders of the hobby’s young quarterback brigade have been Patrick Mahomes II and Josh Allen. Joe Burrow may have stepped into their stratosphere on Jan. 22, 2023.
That was the day he outdueled Allen in the AFC Divisional playoff game, when his Bengals went to Buffalo and beat the Bills decisively, 27-10.
Back in 2020, Burrows’ highly anticipated rookie season ended abruptly after 10 games due to a leg injury. But he came back in 2021 to throw for 4,611 yards and 34 touchdowns. This season, he had an equally productive season: 4,475 yards and 35 TDs. And collectors are clearly staking their claim on the young QB.
Consider these prices paid in a half-dozen recent eBay sales:
• $25,000 on one bid for a Gem-Mint PSA 10 specimen of his 2020 Panini Flawless autographed patch card (see Top 10 chart below).
• $14,077 on 44 bids for a 2020 Panini Contenders Rookie Ticket Stub. Marked #3/9, this one graded out at PSA 10.
• $13,300 on 61 bids for a 2020 Panini Green Shimmer Prizm. Marked #5/5, this is yet another PSA 10 specimen.
• $10,500 on 37 bids for a 2020 Black Prizm variation of Panini’s 2020 Pandora Donruss Optic card. Graded PSA 10 and bearing Burrows’ autograph, this one is marked #23/25.
• $10,100 on 47 bids for a 2020 Panini Flawless signed Sapphire patch card. Graded BGS 9, it bears the mark #9/10.
• $9,700 on 67 bids for a 2020 Panini One Jumbo Tag autographed card with a Nike swoosh on the enclosed patch. It’s marked #3/5 and graded BGS 9.5.
