Rare Honus Wagner card sets record in REA auction
The iconic 1909 T206 Honus Wagner card has long been one of the most valuable and coveted cards in the hobby, setting records with sales in the millions.
Now another, different Wagner card has set a record in the October Encore Auction at Robert Edward Auctions.
A 1910-1911 M116 Sporting Life Honus Wagner Blue Background, graded SGC EX+ 5.5, sold for $72,000, a new record for the card in any grade.
REA’s October Encore Auction totaled $1.4 million in sales across more than 3,500 lots.
“This has been a tremendous year so far for REA and the superb results in our October Auction set the stage perfectly for our blockbuster Fall Catalog Auction in mid-November,” REA President Brian Dwyer said. “We have big news to share in the weeks ahead about some incredibly rare and historic items in our Fall Auction, so stay tuned as this is an event collectors will not want to miss.”
