Game-worn jerseys from two of the top Hall of Fame pitchers in baseball history combined to sell for more than $3.8 million in the May 16-18 Spring Sports Catalog Auction at Heritage Auctions.

A Washington Nationals jersey worn by Walter “Big Train” Johnson throughout the 1919-22 seasons sold for $,2010,000 million, while a 1955 jersey worn and signed by Sandy Koufax went for $1.8 million.

Johnson’s 105-year-old pinstriped, gray flannel jersey was photo-matched to an April 29, 1920 game when Johnson had eight strikeouts, including two against Babe Ruth, to beat the Yankees, 2-1, at the Polo Grounds. It is one of just two known jerseys that have survived Johnson’s storied career. The other is in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Koufax wore the Brooklyn Dodgers road jersey worn by Sandy Koufax during his rookie season in 1955. It was photo-matched to two Spring Training games in 1956, when players typically wore uniforms from the previous season.
