Collectable’s second BWIC auction features rare Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth cards
Collectable’s second BWIC (Bids Wanted In Competition) auction features a rare 1925 Exhibit Lou Gehrig card as well as high-end trading cards of Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes.
Collectable, the hobby’s leading fractional investment company, launched the exclusive competitive bidding process last month to increase demand for iconic collectibles. The auctions feature sports trading cards as well as sports art, video games, comic books and wine.
“Collectable’s mission is to elevate the collectibles asset class through enhanced access, liquidity, and optionality for both buyers and sellers,” Collectable CEO Ezra Levine said. “Bids Wanted in Competition is a time-honored financial markets approach to valuing, and ultimately transacting, esoteric assets. We believe it fits nicely within the collectibles arena.”
The latest BWIC auction, which runs through March 5, features shares of a 1925 Exhibit Lou Gehrig signed rookie card, graded PSA 8, with a value of $1.75 million.
Other high-value cards up for bid include:
• A 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth card graded SGC 8 (Estimated Value: $200,000).
• 2017 Flawless Patrick Mahomes Shield Signatures Rookie Patch Auto card graded BGS 7.5 ($750,000).
• 2017 National Treasures Patrick Mahomes Green Rookie Patch Auto card graded BGS 9 ($100,000).
• 2000 E-X Essential Credentials Tom Brady rookie card graded BGS 9 ($100,000).
• 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card graded SGC 5 ($150,000).
• 2017 Panini Flawless Jason Tatum Platinum Rookie Patch Auto card graded BGS 9.5 ($250,000).
• 2017 Exquisite Quad Michael Jordan Patch Auto card, graded BGS 9 ($100,000).
• 1958 signed World Cup ticket collection ($350,000).
Key elements of the unique auction include:
• Silent, Sealed Bid Auction: Consignors are looking to sell investment grade collectibles through an institutional and time honored process. Bids are sealed and not disclosed publicly.
• It’s Competitive: Bidders are competing against other bidders for the right to own these collectibles outright, just like any other auction.
• Extended Bidding: Only the top three bids at the end of the first round advance to Extended Bidding. Make sure to bid competitively for a chance to advance. In Extended Bidding, bidders are then prompted to submit one more “best and final” bid to present to asset sellers.
• Sellers can elect to accept or reject: Sellers retain the option to sell the piece, based on the competitiveness of the bids received. Sellers, and prospective sales prices, are vetted to ensure their asks are reasonable and their intentions are to sell.
• Group Bidding: On select items, Collectable will enable Group Bidding, a unique tool which allows verified accredited investors to pool their bids together to own fractional interests in the piece.
