Another Bill Russell jersey tops $1 million at Hunt Auctions
In December, the Boston Celtics jersey Hall of Famer Bill Russell wore during his final game in the 1969 NBA Finals sold for more than $1.1 million in a special Bill Russell Collection that netted more than $7.4 million at Hunt Auctions.
Four months later, another Russell jersey topped $1 million in a second auction of Russell memorabilia.
The white, blood-stained, No. 6 jersey, which includes Russell’s autograph, sold for $1,022,250 at Hunt Auctions on April 22.
The jersey was part of 286 additional lots from the Russell Collection, which also included a green Celtics warmup jacket that sold for $94,000 and Russell’s Olympics warmup suit that sold for $76,375.
Russell wasn’t the only Celtics legend to be featured in the auction. The final NBA Championship ring presented to legendary Boston coach and team president Red Auerbach in 1986 sold for $129,250.
