Baseball signed by 11 inaugural Baseball Hall of Fame inductees tops SCP auction
A baseball signed by the 11 inaugural inductees to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939 topped SCP Auctions’ Summer Premier Auction.
The historic ball sold for $360,000 and was one of several items to top $300,000 in the auction.
Also among the top sellers was the warm-up jacket Kobe Bryant wore for his final NBA game, which sold for $336,000.
Other record sales included: a 1984 Star Michael Jordan rookie card (PSA 7) set a record for its grade at $66,000; and an 1896 Athens Olympics participation medal went sold for $19,200, a record for any participation medal from the first modern Olympic Games.
Two complete sets also brought strong results as a 1969 Topps Baseball complete PSA-graded set (8.929 GPA) went for $114,000, while a 1984-85 Star Basketball complete set (five examples PSA graded) sold for $51,000.
Other top sales included: a 1909-11 S74 Tobacco Silks uncut sheet with 156 total silks for $54,000; and a framed Elvin Hayes’ personal NBA 50 Greatest Players multi-signed lithograph for $36,000.
Top game-used memorabilia included: the shirt Rafael Nadal wore to clinch his career Grand Slam in the 2010 U.S. Open Final brought $72,000; a 1991 Ken Griffey Jr. game-used bat (PSA GU 10) for $39,000; Christian Laettner’s 1992 Olympic Dream Team game-worn uniform brought $26,400,; and a 1962 Pele Brazil match-worn jersey sold for $25,200.
