2024 World Series final out ball being auctioned for LA fire victims
The baseball from the final pitch of the 2024 World Series between the Dodgers and Yankees is being auctioned with the proceeds benefitting victims of the Los Angeles fires.
Dodgers catcher Will Smith and his wife, Cara, are auctioning the ball through their Catching Hope Foundation. Pitcher Walker Buehler fired the historic ball to Smith for strike three, sealing the Dodgers’ World Series triumph over the Yankees with a 7-6 win in Game 5 of the series.
This auction is a partnership between the Catching Hope Foundation, the Buehler Family Foundation, and the Dodgers organization to help support fire relief efforts.
The online auction is being hosted on the Memorabilia Network. Registration opened March 13 with bidding beginning on March 21 and running through 6 p.m. PST on April 5.
Fans can see the ball displayed at Dodger Stadium during the team’s first homestand against Detroit (March 27-29) and Atlanta (March 31, April 1-2).
“Los Angeles has not only become home to us, but it has welcomed and supported our family since 2019,” Will and Cara Smith said in a release. “Our goal here is to give back and partner with the city that means so much to us in the years of rebuilding that are to come.”
“This prized baseball represents one of the most special moments in the long history of the Dodgers,” a statement from the Dodgers said. “We applaud and support Will and Cara for taking the initiative to help so many others through this cherished piece of sports history.”
