Miscut 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson, Mickey Mantle card highlights SCP February auction
SCP Auctions has 67 high-end sports cards and memorabilia items up for bid in its special February Finest Auction, including the most sought-after miscut card in the hobby.
A 1952 Topps #312 Jackie Robinson card has part of the iconic #311 Topps Mickey Mantle card clearly visible.
The Mantle card is the most valuable sports card in the hobby, with a SCG 9.5 version selling for an all-time record $12.6 million last year. The Robinson error card, with a sliver of the Mantle card showing, was recently graded PR 1 by CSG. It has an opening bid of $150,000.
The card has minor wear and a handwritten “42” in the bottom right near Robinson's name. It was previously certified by another grading company before being sent to CSG, which graded it CSG 1 and placed in a holder with the label referencing the partial Mantle card.
“Most of the time a miscut card is not desirable,” CSG Vice President Andy Broome said. “However, this 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson shows a miscut portion of the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle as well. Having the most iconic baseball card alongside a popular legend like Robinson makes this a special example for card collectors and baseball fans alike.”
The February Finest Auction, which runs through Feb. 4, also features dozens of incredible, high-end vintage cards and memorabilia.
Other highlights include: a 1909-11 T206 complete set fully PSA graded with a 4.27 Set Rating; a 1933 Goudey #92 Lou Gehrig graded SGC Mint 9; a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle graded PSA EX 5; and one of a few known autographed 1934 Goudey #37 Lou Gehrig examples.
