Third Collector Conquers Yankee Stadium Legacy Set
A third collector has been successful in his efforts to complete Upper Deck’s 6,600-card Yankee Stadium Legacy insert set. Kent Hayes of Sacramento, Calif., had his set verified as being complete by company officials last week.
“I went to my very first game at Yankee Stadium last year,” said Hayes. “While I was there, I saw some marketing materials regarding the set and thought, ‘Why not?’ I started collecting my first cards in July and finished the set in March.”
Hayes will join the other two who have completed the set on an all-expense-paid trip to New York City in June to see a Yankees-Nationals game at the new Yankee Stadium, and have lunch with Derek Jeter. Two more spots on the trip are available if collectors submit their complete sets to the company by April 30.
“This has been a lot of fun to watch,” said Terry Melia, Upper Deck’s public relations manager. “To have the first person complete the set was exciting in its own right, but to have three people on board at this point is just incredible.”
Hayes said he used the internet and traded with fellow collectors to complete his set. “I even had a simple software program built that tracked the set and analyzed lots on eBay to tell me how many I needed from particular lots,” he said.
