Clean Sweep Rolls Out Nagurski, 1962 Jell-O Set
The October air brings with it the heat of the pennant races and the cold-hitting action on the football fields. Clean Sweep is adding to the excitement with an impressive lineup of memorabilia related to both of these sports.
The latest Clean Sweep auction is live now at www.csauctions.com and will conclude Oct. 7, featuring more than 600 lots.
Leading the pack is a 1935 National Chicle near set (30/35), all graded. The near set includes the coveted Bronko Nagurski card, graded PSA 3. The rest of the near set is SGC graded, ranging from “Authentic” to a “6.” Clean Sweep states, “The key Nagurski card is well centered, bright and clean. There are no visible creases, even under magnification, and the back is also quite vibrant and clean, a solid anchor for this important prewar football card set.”
Another titan in the collecting world is Babe Ruth, and Clean Sweep is offering a single-signed bat from the legend, on a Ruth store model example that was formerly on display at the Babe Ruth Museum in Baltimore and owned by former Orioles pitcher Mike Flanagan.
Some other big hitters revolve around the backbone of this hobby – baseball cards.
Clean Sweep is serving up a complete set of 1962 Jell-O baseball cards, offered in VG-EX condition. All of the key cards are included, such as Mickey Mantle, Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron, Sandy Koufax and Willie Mays.
The popular T206 is represented in the auction with a collection of 213 different commons presented in one lot, including four Hall of Famers.
Complete sets come in the form of a 1911 E96 issue and a 1953 Bowman Color set. Of the E96 set, Clean Sweep stated, “This is an overlooked and beautiful set, with many difficult cards, including the Connie Mack that hardly ever trades.” The 1953 Bowman set has the Mantle in a PSA 3 grade. Stan Musial is a PSA 5 and the Berra, Bauer, Mantle card is a PSA 6.
Other cardboard highlights include a 1936 R312 complete set that resides at No. 2 on the PSA Set Registry (with DiMaggio a PSA 3), 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson SGC 7, 1952 Bowman Small near set and several lots of 1912 L1 Leather pieces, featuring Hughie Jennings, Ed Walsh and Roger Bresnahan.
On the memorabilia side of things, Clean Sweep’s lineup includes a Super Bowl II full ticket (PSA 3), 1951 N.Y. Giants team-signed, game-used World Series bat with Willie Mays, a Frank Schulte 1916 Ferguson Bakery Photo Prize pennant and a beautifully signed Roger Maris ball graded PSA/DNA 8.5 (with a personalization).
These and hundreds of other lots across the major sports and into the non-sports category are available for bidding through Oct. 7. For more information, visit www.csauctions.com or call (888) 468-3397.
