Upper Deck Signs Autographed Memorabilia Deal With Shaquille O’Neal
Upper Deck announced Shaquille O’Neal has joined the company’s athlete lineup. The new deal gives Upper Deck rights to create a full line of autographed memorabilia of the NBA legend commonly referred to as “Shaq.”
“Shaquille O’Neal’s charisma and fun-loving personality make him just as popular today as when he played for the NBA,” said Jason Masherah, president of Upper Deck. “We’ve received many requests for his memorabilia over the years, and we are excited to bring fans this innovative new collection of premium Shaq collectibles.”
The new Shaq collection from Upper Deck Authenticated will include several unique and limited-edition pieces such as "The Show," a 46-by-20-inch image that includes the largest Shaq signature piece ever produced, a “Tegata” featuring Shaq’s impressive handprint surrounded by images from his entire career and a “Breaking Through” piece that captures The Big Aristotle above the rim, just before he makes a slam dunk - with an actual basketball breaking through the Plexiglas. In addition, collectors can find a dual-signed items showcasing Shaq with other legendary athletes such as Wayne Gretzky.
O’Neal was selected by the Orlando Magic as the first Draft pick in 1992, where he earned Rookie of the Year status. During his 19-year professional career he played for a total of six teams (the Magic, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Boston Celtics). His long list of accolades includes being a 15-time NBA All-Star, four-time NBA champion, three-time NBA Finals MVP, two-time NBA scoring champion and three-time NBA All-Star Game MVP. Prior to his professional career, O’Neal attended Louisiana State University where he was named AP Player of the Year in ‘90-‘91 and SEC Player of the Year in ‘91-‘92.
