T3 Turkey Reds, Ruth/Capone Ball, M116 Sporting Lifes Among Highlights in Mile High Auction
Mile High Card Co. has kicked off the New Year with its much anticipated 2013 Winter Premium Auction, a decidedly smaller and more exclusive event than the company's traditional auctions. The auction is live now, and ends Jan. 31 at www.milehighcardco.com.
Mile High will offer collectors an amazing opportunity to acquire many one-of-a-kind premium collectibles. Collectors familiar with the Centennial-based firm can expect to find the usual array of magnificent cardboard, as well as some of the strongest pieces of memorabilia the company has ever offered that will capture the fancy of enthusiasts. MHCC Principal Brian Drent noted, "As a firm, we really are pleased with the material that is being presented within this catalog, and I feel that some of the items offered are among the highest caliber of items recently offered within the hobby.”
Headlining the prestigious offerings of cardboard featured in the current MHCC sale is a staggering presentation of Prewar material highlighted by an attention commanding 1911 T3 Turkey Red complete set that ranks as the No. 3 current finest on PSA Set Registry with a 5.03 GPA. This historic offering will be sold as either a complete set or as singles, with the higher aggregate price determining the method of sale.
The auction also includes another early century delight with the offering of a 1911 T205 Gold Border complete set that currently resides third on the PSA Set Registry with a GPA of 5.869. This featured set will also employ the same method of sale by being offered as both a complete set as well as singles with the contents being sold to the higher aggregate bids.
A third offering utilizing this same process of sale is a 1911 M116 Sporting Life Master Set that ranks as the No. 2 on the PSA Set Registry with GPA of 6.387.
Pasteboards offered as single lots within the sale of note are the following: A stunning and exceptionally desirable 1909 T204 Ramly Eddie Collins PSA 8 NM/MT, as well as a imagination conjuring 1910 E98 Red Cy Young PSA 8 from the recent Black Swamp Find. Also offered in the auction is a terrific example of a 1933 Goudey No. 144 Babe Ruth that has been graded SGC 88 NM/MT 8. Finishing up a small but strong presentation of single cards is a terrific example of a 1956 Topps No. 135 Mickey Mantle card that has been graded PSA 9.
The memorabilia portion of the January Premium auction is as strong as MHCC has ever offered within this format of sale and is highlighted by the following items. Clearly one of the overall highlights of the current auction is a captivating offering of a spectacular and incredibly rare Babe Ruth and Al Capone Signed OAL (Harridge) ball that is believed to be the only example extant. Also of note on the memorabilia side is a spectacular 1927 Babe Ruth single-signed ball with exceptional provenance, as well an impressive 1927 New York Yankees Reunion team-signed ball signed in the early 1940s with (11) signatures, including Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, Pennock and Bengough with a LOA from PSA/DNA and JSA that came from the Pennock family along with the Ruth/Capone ball is being offered.
The auction also features a 1967 Boston Red Sox American League Championship ring that is being offered for the first time.
