Jesse Owens 1936 Olympic Gold Medal to be Offered by SCP Auctions

The artifacts on display at the National Convention are simply amazing. One-of-kind artifacts are available at every turn, and now comes the news that SCP Auctions is not only displaying a 1936 Olympic gold medal of Jesse Owens, but the company will also be offering the famous relic in its November auction.

SCP Auction is proud to present Jesse Owens’ original Gold Medal from the 1936 Olympic Games held in Berlin, Germany. Arguably the most historically significant Olympic artifact ever offered publicly, the medal will be exhibited for the first time at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago at the SCP Auction booth (#1013P, 1015P, 1112P, 1114P).

Owens won four gold medals in the 1936 Olympics, in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and the long jump. He managed to break or equal nine Olympic records and also set three world records.

The fascinating journey of this gold medal starts with the friendship between Jesse Owens and famous entertainer Bill “Bojangles” Robinson. The medal, as documented in the 1988 biography “Mr. Bojnagles”, was gifted to Robinson by Owens in the late 1930s. It has descended in the family of Robinson’s late widow Elaine Plaines. It survives as one of the most monumental pieces of Sports Americana that has surfaced in decades.
