Rare Goudey cards from Manny Gordon Collection top $2.7 million in Memory Lane Auction
Several rare 1933-34 Goudey cards from the Manny Gordon Collection sold for more than six figures in the Spring Rarities Auction at Memory Lane Inc.
Gordon, a renowned New York jeweler and vintage card collector, owned one of the hobby’s most impressive collections of rare Goudey Gum cards. His collection, which highlighted Memory Lane’s spring auction following his death from COVID, netted more than $2.7 million in sales.
Three Goudey cards from the collection were the top-selling cards in the auction, each selling for more than $500,000.
A 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #53, graded PSA 8, sold for $942,000, a record for the grade, while a 1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig #92, graded PSA 9, went for $672,000.
A 1933 Ruth #149 also topped a half-million, selling for $510,000.
Other Goudey cards from the Gordon Collection that attracted six figures included:
• A 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #144 (PSA 8) for $384,608.
• A 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #181 (PSA 8) for $268,736.
• A 1934 Goudey Hank Greenberg #62 (PSA 9) for $218,579.
• a 1933 Mel Ott (PSA 9) for $149,794.
• A 1934 Goudey Lou Gehrig #61 (PSA 8) for $147,484.
• A 1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig #160 (PSA 8) for $133,906.
• A 1934 Goudey Lou Gehrig #37 (PSA 8) for $121,906.
Two other Goudey cards from the Gordon Collection came in just under six figures: a 1933 #1 Benny Bengough (PSA 8.5) selling for $97,734; and a 1933 Goudey Mark Koenig #39 (PSA 9) for $95,761.
Other top-selling cards from the auction include:
• A 1958 Topps Sandy Koufax #187 (PSA 10) for $449,389.
• A 1958 Topps Frank Robinson #285 (PSA 10) for $230,219.
• A 1958 Topps Yogi Berra #370 (PSA 10) for $185,389.
• A 1958 Topps Hank Aaron #30 (PSA 9) for $173,582.
• A 1949 Bowman Jackie Robinson #50 rookie card (PSA 8.5) for $169,906.
• A rare 1948 Leaf Baseball 5-cent Wax Pack for $135,484.
• A 1958 Topps Ted Williams #1 (PSA 9) for $132,876.
