Upper Deck made headlines earlier this year with its Presidential Predictor cards, featuring humorous caricatures of the various presidential candidates. Now the company is hoping to generate more headlines, and boost traffic into hobby shops, with a new Presidential Victor card of Barack Obama.

The new card will not be inserted into products, as the Predictor cards were. Instead, it will be sent to hobby shops that have direct accounts with Upper Deck’s Diamond Dealer network. Stores will receive a maximum of 100 cards to be used as a gift-with-purchase incentive on Upper Deck products. The card will be mailed to stores by the middle of the month.

“The best way for us to bring our Presidential Predictor series to a logical end was to release a Presidential Victor card showing the winner,” said Chris Carlin, Upper Deck’s hobby marketing manager. “We are happy to work with our most supportive hobby shops to provide them with these unique cards, which they can share with their customers. No matter which party you supported, this was a historic election, and this card represents a great way for Upper Deck to commemorate the 2008 Presidential race.”

The illustration on the front of the card (PV-1) is based on the post-game Gatorade dousing of Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy, the first African-American coach to win a Super Bowl, after his team defeated the Bears in Super Bowl XLI. Upper Deck changed the participants in the celebratory scene to represent President-elect Obama, Vice President-elect Joe Biden and future First Lady Michelle Obama.

A list of stores that will be distributing the cards will be posted online at www.presidentialpredictor.com.
