1964 Roberto Clemente silver bat sells for $300K at SCP Auctions
In 1964, Roberto Clemente won his second of four National League batting titles, hitting .339 with a league-leading and career-high 211 hits.
The silver bat Clemente was presented for his second batting title sold for $307,500 in the 2023 Summer Premier Auction at SCP Auctions.
The bat, which was originally sourced from the Clemente family, is made up of 55.6 Troy ounces of sterling silver.
The top-selling card in the auction was a one-of-a-kind signed 1931 W517 Babe Ruth (Throwing) New York Yankees card. With an autograph grade of PSA/DNA Mint 9, it sold for $151,652.
Other vintage cards that performed well include:
• A 1953 Topps Mickey Mantle (PSA NM-MT 8) for $91,151.
• A 1954 Topps Hank Aaron rookie (PSA NM-MT 8) for $37,610.
Among game-worn memorabilia, a 1977-78 Julius Erving Philadelphia 76ers jersey, graded MEARS A10, went for $33,378; a 1965 Pelé Brazil National Team shirt brought $20,060; and a 1956 Melbourne Olympics track and field uniform worn by USA athlete Isabelle Daniels took in $19,540.
Championship jewelry also attracted some impressive prices, including: a 1998 New York Yankees World Series championship ring presented to former player Clete Boyer for $24,274; a 2015 Denver Broncos Super Bowl 50 ring for $20,035; and a 2009 Yankees World Series pendant took in $8,294.
Other auction highlights include:
• 1963 Fleer Baseball complete set (67) ranked #15 on the PSA Set Registry (all but two cards graded PSA MINT 9, none below PSA 8) for $26,701.
• 1967 Topps Baseball complete set of (609), including 172 graded examples for $25,686.
• 1964 Topps Baseball complete set of (587), including 38 graded star examples for $20,724.
• Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle & Joe DiMaggio multi-signed C. 1920s ONL baseball (PSA/DNA & JSA LOAs) for $20,035.
• 1923 Christy Mathewson signed check displayed with 2001 UD Hall of Famers Class of ’36 and 2003 Donruss Timeless Treasures Cards (PSA/DNA NM-MT 8) for $20,035.
